Functional & Sterosactic Neurosurgery Program
Functional neurosurgery involves the placement of electrodes at specific regions in the brain to alleviate symptoms associated with a variety of diseases.
General Neurosurgery Program
Not all conditions are rare or complex. While the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Arizona prides itself in the multidisciplinary and subspecialty surgical care of complex neurological diseases, we also address more common disorders affecting the brain and spine.
Neurosurgical Pain Service
The Neurological Pain Service program within the University of Arizona Department of Surgery offers many patients the hope of pain relief when other attempts at pain management fail or are inappropriate.
Neurotrauma & Critical Care Program
Each year, more than 1.5 million Americans suffer a traumatic brain injury. While the majority of these injuries are minor, some 80,000 to 90,000 patients are left with long-term disability, including paralysis, vision loss, hearing impairment, memory deficits, and cognitive behavioral changes. In severely injured patients, death, coma, or a persistent vegetative state may result. Rapid neurologic care at a Level-1 Trauma Center may make the difference between permanent impairment and a good outcome.
Radiosurgery Program
Stereotactic radiosurgery employs many fine beams of radiation that converge on a target. The end result is that the tumor receives a high dose of lethal radiation while the surrounding brain and nerves are spared.
Skull Base Surgery Program
The Skull Base Surgery Program offers a multidisciplinary team of surgeons and specialists who collaborate to offer the full range of cutting-edge surgical, radiosurgical, and medical treatments for patients with cranial base disorders. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of clinical care while advancing the field through research and education.
Spine Surgery Program
The National Institutes of Health report that 8 in 10 Americans will experience back pain at some point in their lives. Many spinal conditions can be treated without surgery. In other cases, spinal surgery may be an option for reducing pain, helping to restore mobility and productivity, and improving quality of life.
