General Neurosurgery Program

Though the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Arizona prides itself in the multidisciplinary and subspecialty surgical care of complex neurological disease, we also address more common disorders affecting the brain and spine.

Most patients who require neurosurgical care will be treated for spinal disk herniations. While the majority of cases can be managed conservatively, some will require surgical decompression, or a diskectomy. A surgical fusion and/or fixation may accompany the procedure.

Craniotomy for blood clots or simple tumors also falls into the practice of general neurosurgery. Additionally, a variety of shunts or drains for diversion of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can be performed.

What Sets Us Apart

Our training includes proficiency with all general neurosurgical procedures, and all of our neurosurgeons are capable of performing procedures in emergency or elective circumstances. All of our neurosurgeons are Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons (ABNS).
